WORSHIP SERVICE
Worship is held at 10:00 on Sunday morning. At the beginning of worship, we give announcements that pertain to this community of faith, we gather the people together with the Call to Worship, and we sing hymns to praise God. Together we pray a corporate prayer of confession, and together we claim God’s assurance of forgiveness. We listen to musical offerings by our choir and organist. The pastor or another church leader will give a special message to the children, who then will leave the worship service with their teachers for Sunday School. We read scripture, and hear a sermon based on that reading. We collect our offerings to the church, for the maintenance of the church and its programs, for the furthering of Christ’s mission in the world, and to the glory of God. We offer prayers for those in need. We celebrate the sacrament of communion on the first Sunday of each month, and on special holy days.
Worship is central to the life of the church. It is what separates us from any other organization to which you may belong. Worship has been called “the work of the people”, because it isn’t really about sitting back and expecting some entertainment experience; it’s about what you will bring to God in this hour, including your open mind, your open heart, your willingness to grow in faith and to be transformed in the image of Christ.
After church, we reunite with the children at coffee hour, where everyone is welcome to meet and greet one another over a cup of coffee, tea, or lemonade.
